Danny Mills has reacted to the news from the Daily Telegraph that Allan Saint-Maximin will be out for Newcastle United for most of January.
Speaking to Football Insider, the former Leeds United and Manchester City defender admitted that he is worried about just how long the France international has been out for already after he caught COVID and he is worried about how long it will be until he will be able to return:
“I think it is a worry.
“It’s interesting the fact that it hasn’t really occurred in too many sportsmen so far, up to this point.
“Most sportspeople have got over it quite quickly and the majority have had very few symptoms.
“We haven’t heard much about the long-term effects of it. We’re all different, we’re all individuals and there are the different strains.
“Of course, it is a worry if it’s going to affect breathing, lung issues and respiratory issues.
“If you’re an athlete, which footballers are – that’s the last thing you need.”
Saint-Maximin a big miss for Newcastle
Saint-Maximin has been such a big miss for the Tyneside club, with Steve Bruce even admitting this himself recently, describing him as a ‘crowd favourite’.

He is certainly a player that gets members of the Toon Army off of their seats, and it is no coincidence that the Magpies have not won in their last four games in all competitions without him in the team.
The 23-year-old had continued where he left off from the 2019/20 term this season in the Premier League, winning a very impressive 7.6 of his duels a game and also averaging 3.6 successful dribbles per match (Sofascore).

NUFC will want to get him back playing as soon as possible, but the fact that the winger will now miss most of next month will be a big loss in the North East.
