Newcastle United are firmly back in the big time for the 2025/26 season, having secured qualification for the UEFA Champions League—a milestone that signals the club’s rising status both domestically and in Europe.
Their confidence is sky-high following an impressive EFL Cup victory and the outstanding performances of striker Alexander Isak, who has been pivotal in turning the Magpies into one of England’s most exciting teams.
However, competing on multiple fronts, especially in Europe’s premier club competition, requires a deeper and more experienced squad. Manager Eddie Howe knows this well and has already begun reinforcing his ranks.
The arrival of youngster Antonio Cordero from Malaga was an early sign of intent, and Newcastle’s pursuit of Anthony Elanga—a winger who was among the Premier League’s best last season—marks a significant step in strengthening their attacking options.
Yet, whispers of an even bigger signing are already stirring among fans and pundits alike. This next acquisition could be a game-changer, injecting fresh belief and ambition as Newcastle aim to challenge the elite both at home and abroad.
Newcastle Monitoring Jack Grealish

According to a report from The Sun, Newcastle United are one of several clubs monitoring the situation surrounding Jack Grealish, with the Manchester City winger expected to leave the Etihad this summer.
After a disappointing 2024/25 campaign that saw him struggle for fitness and form, Grealish was even left out of City’s FIFA Club World Cup squad—seen by many as a clear sign that a transfer is on the cards. The Sun reports that City are open to selling the England international for just £40 million, a sharp drop from the £100 million they paid for him in 2021.
Newcastle are believed to be exploring the possibility of bringing the 29-year-old to St. James’ Park, as they aim to add more elite-level experience to Eddie Howe’s squad ahead of another push for Europe. However, Grealish’s £300,000-a-week wages could prove a stumbling block, unless a compromise is reached.
While his recent seasons have been inconsistent, Grealish’s talent is unquestionable. He played a crucial role in City’s historic 2022/23 treble, earning praise from manager Pep Guardiola, who claimed that success would have been “impossible” without him.
Former Manchester City midfielder Owen Hargreaves, meanwhile, has previously called him “a fabulous player” who is “impossible to play against” when at his best.
If Newcastle can strike the right deal, they may land a proven Premier League star with the ability to turn games on his own—exactly the kind of spark that could elevate them to the next level.
