After overcoming Sheffield United 2-0 at Bramall Lane on Thursday night, Newcastle United have entered December in a far more comfortable position – having won four out of their last eight games – but there’s perhaps one man who isn’t getting the plaudits he should be.
The Magpies came away from the Steel City with all three points after Allan Saint-Maximin scored his first goal for the club following a Javier Manquillo cross, with midfielder Jonjo Shelvey taking advantage of offside confusion to score Newcastle’s second and arguably the most controversial goal of the round.
Of course, the likes of Martin Dubravka, Saint-Maximin and Shelvey seem to be taking all the credit for their influential performances, but one man who has flown under the radar is defender Federico Fernandez.
Fernandez, according to WhoScored.com, was one of the Magpies’ most highly-rated players – scoring 7.7 on the night and finished just below fellow stars Andy Carroll, Shelvey, Manquillo and Dubravka.
As a result, fans have applauded the Argentine’s solidarity on social media and flocked to give him the praise he deserves:
