After a memorable decade of football on Tyneside, often for the wrong reasons with occasional bright spots in between, fans have came to the realisation that their supposed team of the decade is underwhelming to say the least.
The decade is nearing it’s conclusion, with 2020 firmly on the horizon with just one month left until Christmas, and with that in mind, Chronicle journalist Mark Douglas has compiled a team of the decade to showcase the best players of these last ten seasons at St James’ Park.
Players like Paul Dummett, Matt Ritchie, Moussa Sissoko and Ayoze Perez controversially made his eleven – leaving many fans wondering just how poor their club has been over this long period.
In response, supporters offered out some alternative stars to pick from – with the likes of Jose Enrique, Jonas Gutierrez, the late Cheick Tiote and Hatem Ben Arfa having previously missed out on a slot despite their involvement in during, arguably, the Magpies’ best period.
However, even with those changes, the eleven still looks bleak, leaving fans with a rather pessimistic outlook on the 2010s as a whole.
