Fresh off a scintillating 2-2 draw at home to Premier League champions Manchester City, Newcastle United take on Sheffield United tonight at Bramall Lane, looking to start a decent run that could go a long way in ensuring their continuation in England’s top flight – but supporters are less than optimistic about the future after Steve Bruce’s latest confirmation.
According to a report from the Chronicle, Bruce has hinted that they’re looking to secure ‘two or three’ signings next summer on a ‘Bosman’ type transfer – meaning the Magpies are possibly looking to pre-sign players that have reached the end of their contracts and could be snapped up for free.
Much like the signing of Andy Carroll last summer, Bruce intends to snap up Bosmans at the end of the season to sure up his squad whether or not they stay in the Premier League.
These quotes could indicate that Newcastle and Mike Ashley are not willing to replicate last summer’s spending and could be in the market for bargains – with supporters not being impressed with the manager’s latest implications.
Here’s what they had to say on Twitter.
Oh the joys of the Ashley regime. Scraping and bottom of the barrel spring to mind. pic.twitter.com/KKD6cnVl9w
