Newcastle United: Fans bemoan ‘positive talks’ with Matt Ritchie and Jonjo Shelvey over new deals

According to a piece from the Chronicle, Newcastle United are believed to have held ‘positive talks’ with players Jonjo Shelvey and Matt Ritchie over new deals – with these supporters not exactly holding the same positivity over the news.

Shelvey, who has stated to the Chronicle in the past that he is ‘playing for a new contract’, has been a key man for the Magpies when on form – scoring five goals from midfield this season and averaging a 73.6% pass success rate (as per WhoScored.com). Ritchie, while being sidelined for most of the campaign so far with an ankle injury, has blossomed for Newcastle when he has played in recent seasons – becoming an integral figure during the Championship-winning 2016/2017 campaign and having two debatably good years back in the Premier League.

However, according to these Magpies supporters, offering the duo new deals isn’t worth the club’s time – with a small section of the fanbase taking to social media and hammering the potential decision.
