After Peterborough United owner Darragh MacAnthony questioned Newcastle United’s decision to sell in-form striker Ivan Toney on Twitter, via the Chronicle, some Magpies supporters have reacted in defence of the decision – praising the club’s stance on a player who was a ‘fish out of water’ in the Premier League.

Toney, who has bagged 15 goals in 23 League One appearances this season for Peterborough, moved on from St. James’ Park in the summer of 2018 for an undisclosed six-figure fee – but despite his brilliant form in England’s third tier, some Newcastle fans still think it was the right decision to let him go.
In comparison, current Magpies strikers Joelinton and Andy Carroll haven’t been able to muster anywhere near as much firepower – scoring just one goal between them – but some critics could argue that is down to the competitiveness of their respective leagues.
As a result, supporters have defended the decision to let Toney leave on social media, here’s what they had to say.
