Newcastle United fans have flocked to social media to praise their latest cult hero following a superb performance away to Sheffield United on Thursday night, a match where Allan Saint-Maximin finally opened his account for the Magpies.
Steve Bruce’s side were under the cosh for a lot of the encounter, with keeper Martin Dubravka constantly forced into producing sublime saves to keep Newcastle in the contest.
However, goals from Saint-Maximin and Jonjo Shelvey managed to seal all three points and ensure the Tynesiders enter a busy festive period in a brilliant position – having won four out of their last eight games in the Premier League.
The Frenchman, in particular, drew plenty of plaudits after another fine individual performance – latching on to Javier Manquillo’s cross and converting his first-ever goal in Newcastle colours.
