According to an exclusive report from the Chronicle, Newcastle United are gearing up to offer star Jonjo Shelvey a ‘major’ contract extension as a reward for his form over the last two months – but these supporters don’t see the merit in the move atoll.

The Englishman is approaching the end of his current contract, with only 18 months remaining, with this report claiming he would like to spend the latter years of his career at St. James’ Park – prompting a negative reaction from some fans.
Shelvey, who has scored five goals in 12 Premier League starts so far this season, including a stunning equaliser at home to champions Manchester City, has been at the very centre of the Magpies’ solid start to the campaign – playing a real part in lifting them to 11th in the table.
However, given his supposed on and off nature, many supporters are sceptical over giving him an extension – here’s what they had to say on Twitter surrounding the news.
Inconsistent

Lazy, slow, bad attitude but sprays a good 70 yard pass so must be mint. A luxury our team can’t afford. Sell him and play longstaff in there and hopefully will find his form again.

Based on yesterday’s performance I wouldn’t bother.

We have had a decent return from Jonjo but it is time to move on.

Personally I think he is part of the problem ..you only get about 20 mins of him being involved in the game …we need midfielders who are comfortable enough with the ball to hold it up and link the game not have 3 killer passes and 12 passes that go missing …
