Newcastle United: Fans hail Joelinton after first goal in over four months

After Newcastle United cruised into the FA Cup fourth round following their 4-1 demolition of minnows Rochdale at St. James’ Park, Joelinton’s first goal in four months got fans to celebrate with passion over the striker’s dry streak in all competitions finally ending – with a lot of them taking to Twitter and praising the forward. 

Joelinton, who last scored in the Premier League back in August during a 1-0 victory over Spurs, notched Newcastle’s fourth and final goal of the game – feeding off an assist from youngster Tom Allan much to the delight of home supporters. The Brazilian has been under fire from pundits and fans alike over these last few months, with some sections of the media branding the player a £40 million flop.

But supporters will now be hoping that the 23-year-old uses this goal to kick-start his Premier League career – even if it did come against a League One side. Compared to striking partner Andy Carroll, although Joelinton has got on the score sheet, his English teammate has acquired one more assist and a superior aerial duels won per game rate (5.8), as per WhoScored.com.
