Even though most of the headlines rightfully went to Miguel Almiron for finally opening his account for the club, Newcastle United shot-stopper Martin Dubravka has also earned some plaudits for his fine performance – shutting out Crystal Palace during his side’s dramatic 1-0 victory.
Dubravka, who recently signed a new six-year deal with the Magpies, made three good saves to deny the visitors before Almiron blasted a half volley at the other end of the pitch to gift Newcastle a last gasp win.
Steve Bruce’s side played out an afternoon to remember at St. James’ Park, moving up to ninth in the table, and they are now looking to end the festive period on a high.
The Slovakian stopper was vital in keeping the scores level before Almiron’s heroics, shutting out Palace stars Christian Benteke, Wilfried Zaha and James McArthur before Newcastle grabbed the winner.
Here’s how fans lauded the keeper’s contribution on Twitter.
Unbelievable. Has to be one of the best signings we’ve ever made, not joking. For the money we payed for him he has been absolutely incredible.

Might give him access to my bank account so he can save that for me too
