Following confirmation from the club that winger Matt Ritchie has undergone a second operation on his ankle, sustained from a Hamza Choudhury challenge in their Carabao Cup loss to Leicester City back in August, supporters have re-launched their attack on Choudhury and citing the tackle as a point of real criticism.
The former Scottish international was a mainstay in the Magpies side before his injury, with manager Steve Bruce having to contend without his influence for the majority of the season thanks to the incident – with Choudhury now facing even more backlash due to Ritchie’s extended absence.
The Leicester midfielder’s rough challenge resulted in the Newcastle favourite being taken off – with lots of criticism heading his way at the time – and now fans have reignited that distaste following the news that the former Bournemouth winger could be out well beyond the New Year.
Here’s how fans responded on Twitter.
@LCFC Choudrey ruined his season with that disgusting challenge. How can a professional do this to another?

How was the tackle not a red

Hope he’s fit soon. Made more galling by the fact it resulted from a disgraceful foul which was only marked by a yellow card. Couple of months later Longstaff was given a red for a significantly less violent challenge.
