Following a run of zero assists and zero goals for Miguel Almiron at St. James’ Park, Newcastle fans reacted in astonishment when the midfielder managed to get on the scoresheet for his country.
Since signing for the Magpies back in January, it’s taken a while for the Paraguayan to find his feet in a Newcastle shirt, just now putting on a string of impressive performances during their back to back victories in the Premier League.
Almiron has had numerous chances to open his account for Steve Bruce’s side, most recently failing to find the target against Bournemouth when the ball ricocheted into his path only for Allan Saint-Maximin to get in the way of a goal-bound shot.
However, turning out for Paraguay last night in a 1-0 win away to Bulgaria, he managed to score the winning goal with an excellent left-footed strike into the bottom corner.
As a result, Magpies supporters flocked to social media in amazement – wondering why he hasn’t been able to bag a strike like that for his club.
