Newcastle United: Fans react to Andy Carroll’s injury situation

Many Newcastle United fans have reacted to the news on Twitter regarding Andy Carroll’s injury situation that looks set to mean he is unable to start a game until after Christmas.

Carroll re-joined United this summer having been released by West Ham United to sign for Newcastle on a pay-as-you-play contract. He was resigned following surgery on his ankle and the club were willing to take a gamble on his fitness resultant of his emotional bond with the club.

The Magpies medical staff fear that the 30-year-old won’t be able to play from the start for over another three months as Carroll continues his rehabilitation from an ankle injury that could have ended his career.

Carroll made his homecoming appearance at St. James’ Park in the final eight minutes of the goalless draw against Brighton. Indeed, Telegraph Sport understood he has not suffered any sort of reaction following his appearance off the bench and will be on the bench again this weekend.

With the news that his involvement for the medium-term future could just be limited to substitute roles, many Newcastle fans have had their say.

Here are the responses…

Some fans were more understanding of his situation and took it as something they were expecting anyway.

Just need him fit for 20 minutes towards the end to turn a defeat into a draw

It was a signing to try to get fans on board ! obviously medical staff have not done there home work here if this is true ? Good luck AC hope it works out

Some other fans though were frustrated that he was brought in and cannot perform. They made their feelings be known.

What an absolute waste. £16m for Rondon who would have been an established player for our team, too much for a 30 year old – but we're paying for Carroll to sit on his arse?

It’s 2019 Andy Carroll shouldn’t be any were near starting for us he’s a decent 3rd /4th choice striker can’t believe the hype around him he’s always going to be injured 10-15 games a season max . Club needed rondon and failed to deliver a striker which guarantees the goals

Cheat was the point in signing him then?
