Loads of Newcastle fans were left unhappy with the performance of Dwight Gayle on Saturday, as the 29 year-old completed just six passes in 90 minutes.
The Magpies picked up a huge three points on Saturday afternoon on the back of their FA Cup success during the week, winning 1-0 at Southampton courtesy of a goal from Allan Saint-Maximin. Steve Bruce’s side are now above the Saints and also eight points clear of the drop, finally putting an end to a run of five league matches without a win and four without even scoring a goal.
But while Saint-Maximin endeared himself to the Toon Army with yet another masterful display, Gayle did the opposite, frustrating supporters with a wasteful performance. Starting in place of Joelinton, the former Crystal Palace man completed just six passes at a success rate of 54%, which comes out at a quite ridiculous one successful pass every 15 minutes (Sofascore).
He also spurned enough chances to have scored a hat-trick, leading fans to label him a ‘Championship player’ as they took to Twitter to react…
Why is Dwight Gayle in the Premier League in Two Thousand and Twenty.

Can only imagine the abuse Joelinton would of got if he missed 1 of the chances Gayle has, never mind all 3.
Barely a word said about it since it wasn’t him though. Typical. #NUFC
