Newcastle United: Fans react to Magpies’ post showing Shay Given highlight reel

Lots of Newcastle United supporters reacted to a post from the club’s official Twitter account continuing the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.

The Magpies tweeted a video showing club legend Shay Given’s incredible highlight reel between the sticks:

The former Irish international made a staggering 448 appearances for the Black and Whites, keeping 125 clean sheets and only conceding 574 goals. Remarkably Given didn’t pick up a single red card throughout his entire career (Transfermarkt).

He went on to win 134 caps for The Green Army before retiring in July 2017. Given also played for Manchester City, Aston Villa, Stoke City and Middlesbrough. The Premier League legend is currently enjoying a stint as a goalkeeping coach for Championship side Derby County (Transfermarkt).

Some Newcastle fans will be hoping their former shot-stopper will return to St. James’ Park someday to coach the likes of Martin Dubravka and Freddie Woodman. One Geordie noted “in his prime he was unstoppable” whilst several others added he is the “best keeper” to ever grace the Tyneside turf.

Take a look at some of the best reactions to Given’s goalkeeping heroics down below…
