Newcastle United: Fans shut down repeated links to Arsenal star Granit Xhaka

Europa League - Arsenal Training

After former Arsenal captain Granit Xhaka was booed off the pitch for his performance at home to Crystal Palace, prompting an emotional reaction from the player, many rumours have been floating around regarding his potential exit in January – with Newcastle United being heavily linked.

Xhaka, who was stripped of the captaincy following the infamous incident, has been rumoured by the likes of the Telegraph and the Times to make a move away from the Emirates and to the Magpies.

The 27-year-old has amassed an impressive 86.5% pass success rate in the Premier League so far this season, notching an assist in the process, as per WhoScored.com, whilst also having ties with Toon star Fabian Schar due to their relationship as Switzerland international teammates.

All of this and more has prompted rumours that he may make the switch to Tyneside in the January transfer window if Newcastle can match his wage demands and the fee itself – but supporters are quite frankly sick of the whispers and often dismiss them entirely.

Here’s how they made their reasoning on social media.

A bad attitude? Someone who would command one of the highest salaries in the changing room and the ill feeling that goes with that, and sulk and create a bad atmosphere if not on the team sheet?

Considering how he reacted to losing the captain’s band at Arsenal, I’d say he wouldn’t last long up here at all

Asif yous think we would buy xhaka, more chance of bringing david batty out of retirement

Wont happen

Nothing. Genuinely don’t get this. Doesn’t create enough, booked all the time and pings a decent shot about 1 in every 25. With 4 good, English midfielders including 2 promising local players why bother?

More problems? 🤔 #NUFC #AshleyOut
