Newcastle United: Fans slam latest theory on potential takeover

Responding to Twitter account NUFC 360, Magpies supporters have dismissed the notion that maintaining a decent run of form and finishing mid-table could attract more worthy suitors for a potential takeover bid – citing owner Mike Ashley’s stubbornness as a reason not to be optimistic.

Newcastle United’s latest victory, a dramatic 1-0 smash and grab courtesy of Miguel Almiron’s first goal for the club, prompted NUFC 360 to give their verdict on the club securing a highly anticipated takeover – with the account hinting that a decent finish to the season could attract worthy investment and finally end the controversial reign of Sports Direct magnate Ashley.

While there is credibility to this argument, most Magpies supporters have appeared to dismiss the notion entirely – proceeding to get their guard up given their previous disappointments with potential new ownership.

In the past, prospective buyers such as Amanda Staveley and Sheikh Khaled have failed to oust Ashley with a successful bid – with part of the reason being Ashley’s willingness to secure the highest amount of money possible.

Here’s how supporters reacted to NUFC 360’s argument on Twitter.
