Newcastle United: Fans slam Matty Longstaff as Craig Hope says he may end up at Watford

Some Newcastle United fans have been slamming Matty Longstaff as Craig Hope shared his latest article for The Daily Mail on his official Twitter page.

As per the journalist, the Tyneside club suspect that Longstaff will end up at Premier League rivals Watford if he joins Udinese on a free transfer, sources close to the Magpies have told the outlet.

Watford and the Serie A outfit are both owned by the Pozzo family and have a history of trading players.

Longstaff, 20, is out of contract in the North East this month and would cost Udinese around £450,000 in compensation, whereas a move to another club in the English top flight would see the fee settled by tribunal.

The Daily Mail has been told that figure would run close to £3 million given Longstaff is an England Under-20 international and has enjoyed a relatively impressive debut season at St James’ Park, scoring three times from 12 senior appearances, according to Transfermarkt.

It is understood by the outlet that Longstaff would prefer to stay at his hometown club but hasn’t accepted a verbal offer believed to be worth £20k-per-week.

These members of the Toon faithful slammed him for rejecting the offer and seemed happy to let him go, perhaps understandably so given his high demands despite only featuring in a handful of games…
