Many Newcastle United supporters have taken to social media to vent their frustrations on Miguel Almiron’s performance against Brighton & Hove Albion, with plenty feeling the Paraguayan had a ‘nightmare’ game.
Almiron’s starting role in the Magpies’ goalless draw with the Seagulls on Saturday was the 25-year-old’s sixth start of the Premier League campaign, but once again saw the 20-cap international fail to register his first goal in Black and White (TransferMarkt).
The former Atlanta United star has now played in 16 fixtures for Newcastle since his January move from MLS for what was a club-record fee and has fashioned a total of 27 shots for the Magpies in those (WhoScored).
Almiron’s efforts against Brighton on Saturday saw the Asuncion-born midfielder enjoy two strong chances to open his United account before being hauled off in the 73rd minute, although he failed to beat Mat Ryan with either.
The Chronicle rated his game a five out of ten as he put together some ‘decent runs’, although WhoScored only registered Almiron beating a Brighton player once from three attempts – fewer successful dribbles than Fabian Schar (3) and Christian Atsu (2).
Almiron also misplaced 70% of his ten attempted passes and was dispossessed once – no Brighton player misplaced more than 25% (Martin Montoya) of their passes.
Justifiably, then, many Newcastle fans were far from impressed with Almiron’s performance…
Get shot of almiron for a start, waste of space, may as well play with 10 men

He’s been Bruce’d as you could see a good player who knew his role until he got injured at end of last season

That display wasnt all down to Bruce. I’m not his biggest fan but Individually Shelvey couldn’t pass, Almiron had a nightmare, Atsu was Atsu & Manquillo was Manquillo. What could Bruce do?
Carroll & ASM were big risks from the bench & didn’t have a lot of minutes in them#NUFC

it wasn’t a disaster, but Almiron should have scored today .. don’t get bigger chances than that #nufc

Almiron looks lost under Bruce under Rafa he was the catalyst for us staying up… I hope he and ASM get to play together with either AC or joelinton …. I really feel sorry for him. Hopefully he keeps his head up #NUFC

Regret wasting part of my life watching #NEWBHA . @NUFC are this year’s Huddersfield. Almiron is stealing a wage. Awful.

The players seem to have no idea where they are supposed to play. The game passed Almiron and Willems by. Luckily it was a mild day or Joelinton would have got frostbite #NUFC

Starting to lose a bit of patience now with Almirón. Love his attitude, the effort he puts in, the ridiculous amount of yards he runs for the team. But it’s becoming worrying that he hasn’t scored yet. #nufc

I like Almiron but can we all admit he’s bang average good on the ball but is the worse finisher I think I have ever seen #NUFC
