Newcastle United: Georginio Wijnaldum debate online has Magpies supporters praising former player

Following a debate online surrounding which Newcastle United player supporters feel the most regret over letting go, a lot of them pointed towards none other than ex-Magpies midfield star Georginio Wijnaldum, with plenty of fans singing his praises on Twitter.

Wijnaldum, who made 40 appearances for the Tyneside club, scoring 11 goals and assisting five others from midfield before they were relegated in 2015/16 (Transfermarkt), moved to Liverpool in that summer for a fee of £25m after Newcastle’s drop to the second tier of English football.

Despite the Dutchman jumping ship, the club seemingly recorded a hefty profit off his departure as well as some pretty great memories courtesy of the player – including a 95th-minute goal to seal an unlikely 2-0 home win against his future club back in December 2015. This season, Wijnaldum has registered an impressive 90.4% pass success rate in the league, far higher than any Newcastle player, as per WhoScored.com.
