Newcastle United: Henry Mauriss steps up takeover efforts; could be good news for Bruce

Henry Mauriss has reportedly stepped up his efforts to take over Newcastle United, and is even planning on letting Steve Bruce stay on as manager, according to the Daily Telegraph.

As per the outlet, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabian (KSA) group have now lost their exclusivity as the American businessman threatens to swoop in and scupper the £300 million deal already previously agreed with Mike Ashley.

Will the takeover of Newcastle be approved?

The report also reveals that the Tyneside club will have around £30 million to spend in the upcoming summer transfer window, plus whatever further cash is raised through the possible sales of players.

Apparently the transfer kitty would have been around £65 million but that figure has now been slashed by more than half following the global pandemic outbreak which has meant that the Magpies have now had to re-adjust their budgets.

However, this sum could well be much more if a takeover occurs, but it could be Mauriss that eventually buys out Ashley instead of the original KSA consortium.

Mauriss is also allegedly keen for Bruce to stay and prove his worth after guiding his team to safety in the Premier League and also reaching an FA Cup quarter-final in the process.

It may be new territory for the Englishman to handle so much money available in the market and he will surely still have a say in any transfer dealings if he stays.

Which year did Ashley launch his Newcastle takeover?

Nevertheless, until there is official confirmation from the top flight as to whether the Saudis will buy out the Toon, everything with Mauriss and Bruce is still speculation at this point in time.

Geordies, will NUFC be taken over by Mauriss or the Saudis? Comment below!
