After Newcastle United’s 0-0 draw at home to Norwich City last Saturday, some supporters have since come out in defence of under-fire striker Joelinton following his performance – despite him failing to find the net since August in the Premier League.
The Brazilian, who signed for the Magpies last summer for a record-breaking £40 million fee, hasn’t exactly lived up to expectation with just two goals in all competitions so far. His latest outing during the stalemate at St. James’ Park, despite failing to break his poor run without a league goal, resulted in him winning 9/12 attempted aerial duels (SofaScore) whilst forcing Canaries ‘keeper Tim Krul into a wonderful save before Miguel Almiron missed the rebound. Joelinton’s impressive statistics when it comes to aerial battles have been a consistent strength throughout the campaign, with the 23-year-old winning 5.5 per game on average as per WhoScored.com.
As a result, these Magpies supporters have leapt to the defence of their man on Twitter – with one fan blaming his goal return on the fact he’s ‘really isolated‘. Newcastle are 17th for key passes made per game, showing the team are not creating enough, so it is not exactly a far-fetched claim.

Hey I’m with you on this, think he’s really isolated but these stats are out – there was at least 1 dribble I remember that got snuffed in midfield and I think they countered on it.
