Newcastle United: Lee Ryder slams Jamal Lewis display

Lee Ryder was left to slam the display of Jamal Lewis for Newcastle United in their 1-1 home draw with Wolves in the Premier League on Saturday night.

The St. James’ Park side were pegged back by a Ruben Neves goal after Jamaal Lascelles had originally given Steve Bruce’s team the lead a few minutes into the second half.

The result left the North East club lingering dangerously in 17th spot in the table on 26 points after 26 games played (BBC Sport), with a serious chance of getting relegated down to the EFL Championship.

Writing in his latest ratings piece for The Chronicle, Ryder was not very impressed at all with Lewis, claiming that the former Norwich City ace was ‘not at his best’ and highlighted how wasteful he was with his crosses, as well as slamming his involvement for the Wanderers’ equalising goal.

The journalist ended up giving him a quite measly 5/10 overall rating for his display, the joint-lowest he gave along with Isaac Hayden and Joelinton.

Lewis not at his best for Newcastle against Wolves

As Ryder rightfully points out, Lewis was not at his best against Nuno Espirito Santo’s men. The Northern Ireland international lost out on three of his duels and also failed to make a single key pass or accurate cross in the game, while also losing possession of the ball no fewer than eight times in total for the Tyneside club (Sofascore).

Nonetheless, the 23-year-old will be hoping to put in some much better performances for the rest of the 2020/21 term.
