Newcastle United: Lee Ryder slams Jeff Hendrick display

Lee Ryder has slammed Jeff Hendrick in his latest player ratings after Newcastle’s 2-1 defeat against Leeds on Tuesday.

The Tyneside club lost out to goals from Raphinha and Jack Harrison after Miguel Almiron had initially equalised for the hosts at St. James’ Park, but in the end Steve Bruce’s team could find no answers again as Marcelo Bielsa’s side took all three points in the North East.

Although some performances were better from those wearing the famous black-and-white striped jerseys, Hendrick was one who flattered to deceive Ryder, as he gave him the lowest overall rating (4/10) out of any of the Magpies to have set foot on the pitch and claimed in his latest piece for The Chronicle that the former Burnley man ‘doesn’t seem to be the answer in midfield’.

Hendrick struggles for Newcastle again

Hendrick flattered to deceive for the Toon yet again as he struggled to really get into the game with a mere 47 touches in total from midfield, with nine Whites players and five NUFC teammates all recording more than him (Sofascore).

The Republic of Ireland international also lost possession of the ball no fewer than 10 times in the match, meaning that he lost it around every 4.7 touches on average, and also failed to record a single shot, dribble or cross (Sofascore) – hardly ideal for a central midfield player.

He has clearly emerged as a favourite of Bruce given that he has made 15 appearances in total in all competitions so far in the 2020/21 term and has often played the full 90 minutes (Transfermarkt). The manager has even stuck with him despite several poor performances which have been lambasted by fans.

However, with performances such as these coupled up with the return of Allan Saint-Maximin, the 28-year-old may well find himself out of the side sooner rather than later.
