Newcastle United podcaster Taylor Payne is buzzing as the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's (KSA) Public Investment Fund (PIF) consider a bid for Edson Alvarez.

The Lowdown: Bid considered

Taking to Twitter, journalist Kery Ruiz has revealed that the St. James' Park outfit are now 'considering' a second and potentially last bid for Ajax defensive midfielder Alvarez.

It is thought that the offer would be around €40m (£33.9m), after their first bid was rejected by the Dutch side.

The Latest: Payne buzzing

After hearing the news, Pod on the Tyne host Payne was left buzzing, as he claimed that a midfield three of Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton and Alvarez 'would be ridiculous':

"A midfield of Edson Alvarez, Bruno and Joelinton would be ridiculous."

The Verdict: Get it done

After the injury to Jonjo Shelvey, the North East club are in need of another player to play in the middle of the park, and Alvarez would fit in very nicely.

Hailed as 'fast, tenacious & charismatic', a 'superb tackler' and someone with 'great ball playing ability' by Football Talent Scout Jacek Kulig, the Mexico international has all of the qualities needed in order to dominate midfield battles in the Premier League.

Having played 17 times in the UEFA Champions League as well as in the Eredivisie for Ajax, Alvarez has already shown that he can play at the highest level, and at 24 years of age, the Magpies would be buying a player that has yet to enter his prime.
