The Daily Mail journalist Craig Hope has now revealed some significant news from Newcastle United on their summer plans.

The Lowdown: Ohio Cup cancelled

As per The Daily Mail, the St. James' Park outfit were set to play in the Ohio Cup as part of a pre-season tournament this summer, but it has been cancelled by the organisers without much explanation.

They were due to play Wolves, Valencia and Villarreal in the competition, but were left fuming by the cancellation at such short notice, and have now been left to scramble over their pre-season plans.

The Latest: Austria tour?

Taking to Twitter late on Wednesday night, Hope has revealed that a training camp in Austria is now the 'most likely' destination for the North East club this summer:

"Hearing Austria training camp now most likely destination for Newcastle this summer."

The Verdict: Relief

It will certainly come as a relief that the Tynesiders seem to have organised new plans for pre-season, given the bizarre cancellation of the Ohio Cup.

Austria should still provide them with a comfortable training camp, and they would not have to travel as far, reducing the risk of jet lag before the season even kicks off.

Clubs from the Austrian Bundesliga could also provide them with some stern tests in pre-season friendlies, such as RB Salzburg, who finished 18 points clear at the top of the table and have had world stars like Erling Haaland play for them in recent years.
