Newcastle United are preparing a fresh contract offer for defender Dan Burn, according to reports in the last 48 hours.

The Lowdown: Instant impact

The 6 foot 6 colossus made the move to St. James’ Park from Premier League rivals Brighton back in January 2022 where he’s since gone on to become a regular feature under Eddie Howe, making over 40 appearances across all competitions.

The Magpies centre-back, however, has now entered the final 18 months of his deal and will surely be set to attract interest should he not commit his future, though it sounds like the club aren’t planning on letting him go anytime soon.

The Latest: Newcastle readying offer

According to Football Insider, Newcastle are ‘ready to offer’ Burn an improved contract as a reward for his outstanding performances since arriving in the northeast.

Howe reportedly ‘wants to keep’ the defender as he ‘values’ his passion for his boyhood club, alongside the versatility he provides.

Now that Kieran Trippier’s extension has been confirmed, it’s claimed that the Blyth-born talent is ‘next on the agenda’.

The Verdict: Fully deserved

Burn has previously been praised for his ‘mammoth’ performances by journalist Josh Bunting, and Newcastle offering him fresh terms would be nothing less than he deserves.

The Toon favourite is currently averaging over 3 clearances and more than 2 aerial wins per league game, highlighting the rock he is at the heart of their backline (WhoScored).

The Magpies star is a useful option to have in the building with his ability to operate at left-back as well as centrally, not to mention that he’s also made two goal contributions during his time at the club (Transfermarkt).

Burn has played an integral part in Newcastle’s success this season and he will undoubtedly continue to have a huge impact on whether his side secure a top-four finish come the end of the campaign.
