Newcastle transfer target Anthony Gordon is keen to join the Magpies this January transfer window, according to reports.

The Lowdown: Magpies in talks?

The St. James' Park side are being heavily linked with a move for Gordon before the deadline with multiple reports claiming talks and offers have been prepared.

Some sources claim Newcastle have been readying a bid for the Everton star, as shared by 90min, whilst others say that 'formal talks' are now underway.

The Toffees are thought to be open to selling their starlet with CBS reporter Ben Jacobs now weighing in with his own update on Twitter.

The Latest: Gordon 'keen' to join Newcastle...

The reporter, backing news from another reliable source in Luke Edwards of The Telegraph, claims Gordon is 'keen' to join Newcastle as the club grow in confidence a deal can be done.

Jacobs said:

"Newcastle growing in confidence they can agree a deal this week with Everton for Anthony Gordon, as first reported by @Luke Edwards.

"#NUFC tried for Gordon last summer. Player keen on the move, but fee still an issue even though it's nowhere near figures quoted back in August"

The Verdict: Make the move...

Gordon has received no shortage of praise since bursting on to the Premier League scene in 2020.

Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino is among the 21-year-old's biggest admirers, calling him a 'tenacious' and 'fearless' player - attributes which may attract Howe as he seeks to guide Newcastle to their first top four finish since 2003.

Allan Saint-Maximin has also been linked to a departure this winter, meaning they should attempt to line up a replacement for the Frenchman who has been pivotal in recent seasons.

Gordon could be that man given, statistically, he has stood out among a struggling Everton side battling relegation.

According to WhoScored, the Englishman ranks as their joint-top scorer in the top flight alongside Demarai Gray and currently sits in their top two for attempts at goal per 90.

When at his very best, Gordon can be a real threat with clubs like Tottenham and Chelsea also registering an interest in the young winger this month.

Plaudits for the forward, his numbers and obvious potential could mean he'd be an upgrade for Howe and they may be boosted further by Gordon eyeing a move to Tyneside.
