Newcastle United have been linked with a move for Liverpool forward Divock Origi, who hasn’t played a very significant role for the Reds so far this season, with the Belgian yet to start a Premier League game this term and only making three substitute appearances in the league thus far.
Now, per Corriere dello Sport, the 25-year-old attacker has drawn interest from several Premier League clubs, while he’s also been linked with Internazionale, ahead of the January transfer window. Newcastle are one of the club’s that are said to have ‘knocked on his door.’
An additional goalscoring threat for Newcastle United
You could certainly argue that Origi would be a good transfer target for the Toon. While the North East club have got four natural centre-forwards in their ranks at present, they have relied heavily on summer signing Callum Wilson for goals this term. The 28-year-old is Newcastle’s top Premier League goalscorer at present, with eight to his name. Only one other Newcastle player, Jeff Hendrick, has netted on more than one occasion in the top flight so far this season.
As a result, perhaps the Liverpool centre-forward, who notably scored an 87th-minute goal in the 2019/20 UEFA Champions League Final, could add another goalscoring threat to Steve Bruce’s side.
Could Origi’s qualities blend well with the Toon?
Per WhoScored, Origi likes to dribble and given that Newcastle have attempted fewer dribbles than as many as 13 other Premier League sides this term, perhaps the Belgium international could give the Toon a boost in this area.
Furthermore, Origi likes to shoot from distance and is said to be strong at doing so, per WhoScored, while long shots are said to be a notable element of Newcastle’s style of play according to the stats website.
Would Origi be a good signing for Newcastle?
With that in mind, the out of favour Liverpool man may not be a bad fit for the Toon and maybe this is a transfer they should consider making.
