Newcastle United have teased the return of Javier Manquillo after tweeting that he will be ‘back soon’ along with photos of him in training.
The former Liverpool and Sunderland man has missed his team’s last two games in the Premier League against Chelsea and Manchester United with an ankle injury, and while he may not be able to return to the side at home to Wolves on Saturday night, it will certainly be a big boost for the St. James’ Park faithful when he does come back.
Newcastle boosted by Manquillo return
Manquillo has been a key player for Steve Bruce in the English top flight so far in the 2020/21 term winning no fewer than 3.7 of his duels a game, as well as averaging two tackles and 1.1 clearances per match (Sofascore).
Should Newcastle start Manquillo?
Emil Krafth has filled in for him but struggled, getting twisted inside and out by Marcus Rashford for the hosts’ opening goal at Old Trafford last week. The Spaniard, currently on £35,000 per week at the Tyneside club, could be a very useful asset to have to defend against Pedro Neto on the wing, but it may be the next fixture that he is looking at for his return to the team – that is not yet clear.
Nonetheless, it will surely come as a welcome relief to many members of the Toon Army that Manquillo is set to return to the side soon.
