Mark Douglas has dropped a quite promising claim on a potential takeover of Newcastle United after James Pallotta was recently interviewed by The Athletic.

In this interview, the former co-owner and chairman of AS Roma expressed an interest in buying a club in the Premier League, namechecking the St. James' Park faithful in the midst of it.

Writing in his latest piece for The Chronicle, Douglas claimed that it is now the third time that Pallotta has referenced the North East club, and shared that it is understood that he has done some due diligence on them.

Douglas even claimed that the Tyneside club would be Pallotta's preference as he attempts to bring together an investment group that would have the financial muscle to buy from Mike Ashley.

Pallotta takeover possible?

Judging by the claims made by Douglas, on top of the comments made by Pallotta himself, it seems very possible that he could eventually complete a takeover of the Magpies.

This would come in handy if the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) group decide to pull out altogether given that the KSA's Public Investment Fund (PIF) have not come back to the table as of yet.

Nonetheless, it is promising to hear of Pallotta's interest in the Toon, which may well be visited in the future.
