Mike Ashley is reportedly content to see how Steve Bruce gels with Graeme Jones at Newcastle United in the next few weeks, according to The Chronicle.
As per the news outlet, the former Aston Villa and Sunderland coach’s future is under no immediate threat, despite fears of relegation from the Premier League down to the EFL Championship.
Should Bruce keep the Newcastle job?
Bruce still has the good will of the chief executive of Sports Direct after getting on with his job despite the difficult climate financially in the North East, due to losses as a result of the global pandemic.
It is added however that ‘Bruce knows that his good will is not unlimited and that dropping into the bottom three and any serious threat of the drop could change matters behind the scenes’.
Should Bruce be under more pressure at Newcastle?
The 2-0 defeat to Chelsea on Monday night was not easy to the eye of many members of the Toon Army, and if the St. James’ Park faithful fail to pick their results up, then it may just be a matter of time before they drop into the relegation zone.
The Tyneside club are currently a mere seven points ahead of 18th-placd Fulham in the top-flight table at the moment, with Scott Parker’s men also having a game in hand on the Magpies (BBC Sport).
Nonetheless, Bruce’s job still does not seem to be under any risk for now, but a few more defeats may well change that in Ashley’s mind.
