An explanation has been provided as to why Steve Bruce decided to take off Federico Fernandez during his side’s 1-1 draw against Fulham at the weekend.
The English tactician specifically stated that the 31-year-old was fatigued and is suffering from the after-effects of coronavirus after previously testing positive (cited by The Shields Gazette).
Fernandez has featured in 13 games in all competitions during the 2020/21 campaign, accumulating a total of 1,125 minutes of game time (TransferMarkt) and has averaged a total of 5.3 clearances per game in the Premier League (Whoscored).
However, a different account was provided on social media by Mouth of the Tyne, who revealed that a disagreement over Bruce’s tactics was the reason that the £47k-per-week talent (Spotrac) was hooked.
Transfer Tavern Verdict
This is the last thing that Newcastle need, and will only infuriate the supporters more.
Bruce is becoming increasingly unpopular on Tyneside due to his style of football and poor results, to which certain outlets have accused him of struggling to understand criticism (via ChronicleLive).
Bruce’s days look numbered at St James’ Park. Losing the dressing room could be the straw that breaks the camel’s back.
