Newcastle United: Gabby Agbonlahor reacts to Ismaila Sarr transfer news

Newcastle United: Gabby Agbonlahor reacts to Ismaila Sarr transfer news -Newcastle United News

Sky Sports and talkSPORT pundit Gabby Agbonlahor has given his reaction to some Newcastle United transfer news that has now emerged involving Ismaila Sarr.

The Lowdown: Sarr targeted

As per The Sun, the St. James’ Park faithful are now targeting Sarr ahead of the summer window, as he looks ‘certain’ to leave Watford, even if they manage to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

However, the Hornets are likely to want more than the £30m that they spent to sign him from Rennes back in 2019, and he still has two years left on his contract at Vicarage Road, putting them in a decent negotiating position.

The Latest: Agbonlahor reacts

Speaking to Football Insider, former Aston Villa and England striker Agbonlahor, who is also a pundit for Sky and talkSPORT, was asked whether PIF should go through with their interest.

His answer was unequivocal, claiming Sarr would be a ‘perfect’ signing for the North East club:

“I really like Sarr, I think he’d be perfect on that right-hand side.

“Wow, what an attack that would be. Saint-Maximin and Sarr on the flanks with Wilson through the middle.

“That’d be a really good bit of business. Newcastle, despite all the money they’ve got, they’ll have to abide by the Financial Fair Play regulations so they’re not able to spend ridiculous amounts of money.

“Getting Sarr on the cheap if Watford go down would be a brilliant idea. I think there’ll be other sides sniffing around too.”

The Verdict: Mouth-watering

The prospect of having Sarr play alongside Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin is truly mouth-watering.

Should Newcastle sign Sarr?

Yes, his season so far has been blighted with injuries, but the Senegal international has still managed five goals and one assist in the top flight, and the Hornets have only won one game in the division when he has not played (Transfermarkt).

Sarr has proven pedigree in the league, given his exploits in the 2019/20 term, and at 24 years of age, the winger has still not reached his peak.

Thus, if the Tyneside outfit can negotiate a cheaper deal with Watford should they go down, it is surely a no-brainer to bring him in.
