Newcastle United: Reason why Hamza Choudhury move collapsed

Newcastle United missed out on a move for Hamza Choudhury as there is an ultra-strained relationship between their board and Watford’s board.

That is according to Football Insider, as a recruitment source has told the news outlet that the boardroom relations between the two clubs are ‘dreadful’ and ‘some way less than cordial’, as both Choudhury and Nathaniel Chalobah, who was going to move to Leicester City in place of the 23-year-old, both had agreed their moves before the window came to a close on Transfer Deadline Day.

Should Newcastle sign Choudhury?

The Hornets had asked the St. James’ Park faithful if they could take Matty Longstaff if they were to lose Chalobah, prompting a chain reaction between all three clubs, but the Magpies were not willing to let Longstaff go to the EFL Championship team as a result of the damaged relations between the two sides, meaning the Choudhury and Chalobah deals both collapsed.

Choudhury may have been a good signing by Newcastle

Choudhury could well have turned out to be a good signing by the Tyneside club, as the central midfield player could have definitely offered some competition in the middle of the park for Steve Bruce’s side.

Nicolas Otamendi Joelinton

Can you guess all 10 Newcastle transfer fees? First up, how much did Joelinton cost? *Fees from Transfermarkt*

A player who has won no fewer than 2.4 of his duels, 1.4 tackles and one clearance a game on average in the Premier League so far in the 2020/21 term (Sofascore), Choudhury, currently valued at £7.2m by Transfermarkt, may well have turned out to be a good fit at the Toon, but alas, it was not to be.
