Newcastle United are moving quickly to kickstart their summer rebuild after a disappointing 2025/26 campaign that fell well below expectations.
The Magpies have already been forced into transition following the departure of key attacker Anthony Gordon to Barcelona, a major blow that has only increased the pressure on the recruitment team to refresh Eddie Howe’s squad.
With further targets already being lined up, including AIK winger Zadok Yohanna, the club are clearly wasting no time in reshaping their side ahead of the new season.
And now, it appears Newcastle are closing in on their first official signing of the summer window.
Newcastle Agree Deal for Jaouen
According to The Northern Echo, Newcastle United are edging towards their opening addition of the summer after reaching an agreement with French side Reims for goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen.
The deal is understood to be worth around €28.5 million (£24m) including add-ons, with the 20-year-old set to join on a four-year contract at St James’ Park once final formalities are completed.
Jaouen has developed steadily in France after joining Reims from Guingamp in 2023, gaining further experience during loan spells at Rodez and Dunkerque before breaking into the first team. He has since made around 60 senior appearances and impressed during a Coupe de France run that included a standout performance against Lille.
The young goalkeeper has also represented France at every youth level from Under-17 to Under-21, and has been closely monitored by Newcastle’s recruitment team throughout the season.
With the Magpies looking to rebuild after a difficult year, Jaouen is now set to become their first signing of what is expected to be a busy summer on Tyneside.
