A big issue for Newcastle United so far this campaign has been the lack of proficiency from three recent new signings who were brought in to ramp up the creative force of Steve Bruce’s side – but so far, all three have just one goal between them – highlighting the Magpies’ need for more forward options.
During their last outing, a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Aston Villa, Conor Hourihane and Anwar El Ghazi grabbed the goals to put the home side into a comfortable lead – with Newcastle barely creating a thing (Alan Shearer complained about their lack of goal threat) until after half time when Allan Saint-Maximin finally forced ‘keeper Tom Heaton into a save.
Later on, Saint-Maximin’s mesmerising run seemingly delivered a great chance for fellow acquisition Miguel Almiron to have a dig – only for the Paraguayan to carelessly give the ball away.
The last of the new trio, Joelinton, didn’t have much luck in front of goal either – netting just one all campaign in an away win at Spurs.
As a result, some Newcastle fans have called upon forgotten men Yoshinori Muto and Christian Atsu to work their way back into the side.
