Newcastle United: Sporting director drops brutal Jacob Murphy claim

The sporting director at Norwich City has dropped a claim about Jacob Murphy and his career at Newcastle United so far.

Speaking to The Athletic, Stuart Webber claimed ‘that pains me’ to see that the 25-year-old, his brother Josh Murphy and Alex Pritchard, who are all former Canaries, have not really made great careers for themselves compared to the likes of James Maddison or Ben Godfrey, who are both now playing at the highest level in the Premier League with Leicester City and Everton respectively.

Murphy not kicked on at Newcastle

Murphy has not really been able to kick on at St. James’ Park, as the winger, currently valued at £3.15m by Transfermarkt, has only scored a mere three goals and made just five assists in 59 games in total in all competitions across three separate terms with the Tyneside club, including being sent out on loan last season (Transfermarkt).

The Englishman has never really been able to cement himself as a regular starter in the team and has not even been named in the squad by Steve Bruce in the Magpies’ last three matches in the Premier League.

Nonetheless, when comparing him to the likes of Maddison and Godfrey, Murphy’s move away from NCFC has not exactly panned out very well for all parties concerned.
