Newcastle United: Steve Bruce offers an update on Allan Saint-Maximin’s injury

Allan Saint-Maximin

Newcastle United’s Allan Saint-Maximin was forced off against Tottenham Hotspur after just 17 minutes, due to a hamstring injury.

This is the same problem which had previously kept him out of action for the 3-1 loss against Norwich City, with the recurrence being a concern for Steve Bruce, as reported by The Chronicle.

Speaking after the game, Bruce said: “Saint-Maximin is a recurrence of a hamstring, and that’s a nightmare for us, unfortunately.”

It is not yet known how long the 22-year-old will be out of action for following the injury.

Having been bought from Nice for £16.5m, as reported by BBC Sport, Saint-Maximin brought a late flurry of excitement when he was substituted on for his debut against Arsenal.

The Frenchman came on with 23 minutes left and completed two dribbles, as well as all of the passes he attempted, as per WhoScored.

He wasn’t really able to make an impact before coming off at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium though, with his only contribution being three passes before being brought off and replaced by Christian Atsu, who set up Joelinton’s winner.

It’s very disappointing to see Saint-Maximin struggling with injuries like this, especially after the promising signs he showed against Arsenal.

The important thing now is that he is allowed to recover and isn’t rushed back, as this can’t be allowed to occur another time in quick succession.
