A takeover of Newcastle United may still be on the cards as James Pallotta has reached an agreement with The Friedkin Group over the sale of AS Roma.
As per the official website of the Italian club, the full transaction is anticipated to close by the end of the month, and is subject to customary closing conditions.

Roma have the right to terminate the deal, but it looks as if the sale will eventually go through, as Pallotta and indeed Dan Friedkin, Chairman and chief executive of The Friedkin Group, have both made rather positive statements with regards to the deal.
Indeed, this may pave the way for Pallotta to start his pursuit of the Magpies, as he has been previously talked about as a possible buyer of the Tyneside club should the sale of Roma go through.
However, this is just speculation at this point in time and until the American billionaire businessman makes an official offer to Mike Ashley, then there will be no takeover at St. James’ Park for now.
The CEO of Sports Direct had an initial agreement with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabian (KSA) group worth £300 million, but the Saudi-led consortium have since withdrawn their bid as they felt as if the Premier League were simply taking too long to make their final decision.

With the new 2020/21 season fast approaching, coupled up with the fact that the summer transfer window has officially opened, perhaps this was an unsurprising move.
Nevertheless, there could be a path for Pallotta to swoop in should he decide to take it, but again this is merely speculation.
