The Transfer Tavern’s Geordie regulars are in a slightly upbeat mood today as news of a potential loan move could help to rejuvenate their underwhelming season.
Townsend has struggled for regular football under Mauriccio Pochettino, starting in just 3 games in all competitions this season. The English international’s lack of game time and poor consistency in form has attracted the interest from Premier League strugglers Newcastle, who are interested in signing the winger on loan.
With capable players already occupying the wide positions for Spurs, they would appear more than willing to allow the out-of-favour winger to leave temporarily in January, bearing in mind they may have replacements on their radar already.
After Newcastle’s lacklustre defeat to rivals Sunderland on Sunday, it would seem that now is as good a time as any to start looking for fresh faces to add to the squad as they are sucked into an inevitable relegation battle, even at this early stage of the season.
