After young Newcastle United academy forward Tom Allan netted his ninth goal in nine games for the under-23s during their 1-0 win over West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League Cup on Monday afternoon, supporters have been debating whether he is a good fit for the first team.
Allan, who recently made his senior debut under Steve Bruce during Newcastle’s 4-1 FA Cup home win over Rochdale, during which he assisted Joelinton for the Magpies’ fourth goal, is currently at the centre of a social media debate over whether he should be promoted following a fine run of form.
The 20-year-old forward, despite only scoring five goals for the under-23s in 2018/19, has impressed this campaign with his fantastic nine-goal consecutive run. By comparison, £40m record signing Joelinton has netted just three times in all competitions this season (WhoScored), with two of them coming against League One minnows Rochdale and Oxford United. However, even though Allan has racked up these numbers for the academy, Newcastle fans have been debating whether his form should earn him a starting place.

Believe it or not Joelinton would score for fun in the second tier or under 23 English football. They’re league 2 standard teams and that’s at a push 😂
