A reliable journalist has claimed that Newcastle United want to sign Conor Gallagher on loan.

The Lowdown: Gallagher future unclear

Given that Gallagher has been shipped out on loan at West Brom for the season, and that Chelsea have since changed manager to Thomas Tuchel midway through the campaign, it is unclear whether his future lies at Stamford Bridge.

Newcastle could benefit from this, as Tuchel may feel that another loan deal would suit the midfielder, with the likes of N'Golo Kante, Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic and Billy Gilmour already at the German's disposal.

The Latest: Newcastle want Gallagher

Alan Nixon has claimed that the Magpies are one of three teams who want to take the 21-year-old on loan, along with both Leeds and Crystal Palace, but Gallagher would prefer to stay at Chelsea.

Nonetheless, if he is not guaranteed regular game-time in west London, then he may wish to consider another loan in order to gain regular first team football.

The Verdict: Newcastle should sign Gallagher

Newcastle should seriously consider signing Gallagher on loan, especially if they are not able to clinch a permanent deal for Joe Willock from Arsenal.

The 21-year-old West Brom loanee has done well in a struggling team this season, with two goals and two assists for the Baggies, with former Premier League ace Paul Robinson describing him as a 'top-quality' player back in March.

He has also been likened by his former manager Slaven Bilic to Chelsea legend Frank Lampard in the past, which is high praise for someone still relatively young, and he would certainly give Steve Bruce another welcome option in Newcastle's midfield.
