According to Meu Timao, Newcastle are in talks to sign Ederson from Brazilian outfit Corinthians.

The Lowdown: Quiet window for Toon

So far this window, the Magpies have made just one new signing in Joe Willock, and even he spent the second half of last season on loan at the club.

It seems that the Tynesiders are looking to rectify that, though, with a deal for Mexico starlet Santiago Munoz close while they now have their eyes on another talent from across the Atlantic.

The Latest: Toon eye Ederson

As per this latest report, Newcastle are looking at Ederson, who is currently on loan at Fortaleza from Corinthians.

Meu Timao claimed that a permanent deal is in the offing, although it could initially be a loan with an obligation to buy. The player's agent said earlier this month that the 22-year-old is worth €10m (£8.6m, via Sport Witness).

Sport Witness' report added that Ederson has been complimented by scouts 'from all over the world', a sign that he has impressed many of those tasked with passing judgement on him.

The Verdict: Something at least

While the 22-year-old may be an unknown quantity, many Newcastle fans will just be happy to hear about some kind of deal. With just Willock coming in thus far, Mike Ashley and Steve Bruce have not done anywhere near enough business this summer.

Ederson is untested in the Premier League, and even in Europe, and Newcastle fans may have been hoping for somebody more proven. There's no suggestion this deal is particularly close but, if it does get done, beggars can't be choosers.
