Newcastle United: Bologna’s stance over Takehiro Tomiyasu revealed amid Magpies interest - Newcastle United Transfer Rumours

Bologna have placed a £23m valuation on right-back Takehiro Tomiyasu but they believe the defender could be worth as much as £30m if he continues his development amid interest from Newcastle United.

The Magpies had sent scouts to watch Tomiyasu ahead of a potential move for the defender in the summer, and Newcastle liked the qualities that the 21-year-old displayed, per Chronicle Live. However, a summer move did not materialise, with the Italian club reluctant to sell the emerging talent, per Goal.

Newcastle might have to spend to solve right-back issue

The Magpies have three right-backs on their books at the moment, one of whom (DeAndre Yedlin) is far down the pecking order and looks set to leave when his contract expires next summer. The other two options of Javier Manquillo and Emil Krafth have failed to really establish themselves as irreplaceable in Steve Bruce’s side.

Which year did Ashley launch his Newcastle takeover?

It is thought that Bologna could look to cash in on Tomiyasu in the near future and that they believe his current valuation of £23m will increase to nearer the £30m mark if his recent form continues, per Calciomercato. That could leave the Magpies with a dilemma over whether they should pay such a fee for a right-back.

Newcastle had faced competition for the defender from West Ham during the summer, but the Hammers are now thought to be unlikely to make a fresh move for him in January, per Evening Standard.

Tomiyasu’s qualities would improve Magpies

Tomiyasu has emerged as one of the most promising young full-backs in Europe over recent months. The 21-year-old managed to display both his attacking potential and his defensive ability last term by registering three assists as well as making 2.3 clearances, 1.7 interceptions and 1.4 tackles per game (Sofascore).

The defender has been described as a ‘great’ player by Bologna’s sporting director Walter Sabatini and the Serie A side clearly believe a lot in his potential to be developed even further, so bringing in the defender would be a potential coup for the Magpies if they can pull it off.
