Newcastle United have been offered the chance to sign former Burnley ace Jeff Hendrick, who has also been targeted by Manchester United, Aston Villa and AC Milan, according to The Chronicle.
The central midfield player was released by Sean Dyche’s team last month as he was unable to agree a new deal with the Clarets, and is thus a free agent at the moment.
Would Hendrick start for Newcastle?
The Tyneside club could pounce as he would be available for no transfer fee, but they may face competition if the clubs that have registered their interest before decide to make a move.
Indeed, Hendrick could well prove to be a decent signing given he has a wealth of experience in the Premier League under his belt.
The 28-year old has played in a total of 122 games across four consecutive seasons in the top flight, scoring nine goals and making a further five assists, as per Transfermarkt.
He is also a full international, having made a total of 54 senior appearances for the Republic of Ireland, netting two times (via the website).
At a relatively good age, Hendrick would hope to challenge the likes of Isaac Hayden, Jonjo Shelvey and Sean Longstaff for a regular role in the middle of the park under Steve Bruce, and given the fact that no transfer fee would be required, a possible deal may not be too costly.
However, everything remains speculation up until this minute in time, but the potential acquisition of Hendrick could turn out to be a bargain.
