Paddy Kenny has claimed that Joe Willock would be an ‘unbelievable’ signing for Newcastle United should they be able to buy him on a permanent deal.
However, speaking to Football Insider, the former Leeds United goalkeeper has also claimed that Arsenal may not want to let him go if he carries on the form that he has been showing for the St. James’ Park faithful:
“They’ve sent him out on loan to give him experience and get him the game time he wasn’t getting at Arsenal.
“He’s scored some fine goals recently and he would be an unbelievable signing for Newcastle.
“I’m sure Arsenal are watching his progress and they might not let him go if he’s doing well and could get in their team.”
Newcastle must sign Willock
Steve Bruce’s team must look to sign Willock on a permanent transfer at all costs given what he has brought to the side so far, and the latest reports suggests they are “hopeful” (via The Express) of doing so.
Should Newcastle sign Willock?
The central midfield player has scored some vital goals for the North East club, none more recently than the very late equaliser away at Liverpool at Saturday lunchtime, which may turn out to be the goal that keeps them in the Premier League.
It is not just a goal from midfield that he can offer too, as the Englishman certainly has the athletic ability to get up and down the pitch, and at just 21 years of age, he will only get better.
Of course, A lot will depend on whether Willock is deemed part of Mikel Arteta’s plans for next season, and if not, what kind of transfer fee that the Gunners would be demanding, but there is no doubt that Willock has improved the Tyneside club since he joined, and they should be doing everything in their power to try and sign him permanently in the summer.
