Newcastle United are reportedly in a battle with a number of other clubs in the Premier League to sign Ross Barkley in the summer transfer window.
The Lowdown: Willock alternative?
Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie has recently claimed that the St. James' Park faithful are hoping that a move for Joe Willock can be sped up after Emile Smith Rowe signed a new deal at Arsenal.
However, It is not a guarantee that the North East club will be able to land his signature, meaning that alternative targets in his position may need to be pursued.
The Latest: Barkley eyed
As per 90min, the Tyneside club are interested in signing Barkley, along with both Everton and West Ham United.
Chelsea may be persuaded to sell him if the offer is right, as he is currently valued at £18m by Transfermarkt.
The Verdict: Sign
Barkley is a player with a lot of experience of playing in the top flight, from early on in his career at the Toffees to being on loan at Aston Villa in the 2020/21 season.
An Englishman, he would help add to the home-grown quota for Steve Bruce, and give him another handy option in the centre of midfield.
Callum Wilson even went as far as to dub Barkley as an ‘unbelievable’ player on The Super 6 podcast (via HITC) back in February, and claimed that the 27-year-old is someone that he would like to play with.
Nonetheless, that potential link-up could be a very profitable one for the Magpies, should he make the move from Stamford Bridge.
