Newcastle United are reportedly now keen on signing Ross Barkley in the January transfer window.

The Lowdown: On the move?

Given that he has been somewhat of a bit-part player for Chelsea so far this season, with just 11 games played across all competitions, the 28-year-old could well be on the move this month.

With links to central midfielders like Jordan Veretout already coming into fruition, it seems likely that the St James' Park outfit will be one of the busiest clubs in the window, and Barkley could be a realistic target for them.

The Latest: Newcastle keen on Barkley

As per TEAMtalk, Newcastle are among a number of clubs who are 'keen' on signing the Chelsea ace on a potential loan deal, along with Leeds United, Everton and Burnley.

Brighton and Hove Albion have also registered their interest in the player, who is looking to break into the England squad once more ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The Verdict: Sign

There is no doubt that Barkley still has talent, as former Premier League manager Alex McLeish has recently pointed out, and at 28 years of age, he is due one more big move in his career.

The Magpies have already witnessed what he can do, after he had a 'good impact' against them earlier this season. At St James' Park in October, he came off the bench for Chelsea with the score at 0-0, helping to 'link things up' and 'suck defenders out' as the Blues ultimately ran out 3-0 winners.

Even though he is currently injured at the moment, Callum Wilson has previously expressed his desire to play with Barkley, dubbing him ‘unreal’ on The Super 6 podcast (via The Chronicle). It has the makings of a potentially mouth-watering combination for the future.
